WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women’s golf team is back in action this weekend, traveling to Princeton University for the 2017 Princeton Invitational. The Hoyas, who will play two rounds on Saturday and a third, final round on Sunday, are set to tee off at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the par-72, 6,100-yard Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J.
The Blue & Gray will be part of a 10-team field this weekend, comprising of six Ivy League programs and two from the BIG EAST Conference. Along with host Princeton, the Hoyas will be taking on Columbia, Dartmouth, Delaware, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Rollins, Seton Hall and Yale.
Head Coach Kate Schanuel will send out a lineup of seniors Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School) and Christine Schmitt (Pittsford, N.Y./Mercy), juniors Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) and Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew’s) as well as sophomore Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior). Additionally, junior Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]) will be playing as an individual.
The Hoyas are coming off of a third-place finish at the Boston College Intercollegiate last weekend, shooting a team 39-over par 903 over the three rounds. Eleey was Georgetown’s top finisher, carding a 7-over par 223, including a 2-over par 74 in the final round, to finish in fifth place.
In GU’s first tournament of the season earlier this month, the Blue & Gray came away with a team win at the Rutgers Invitational, finishing atop a 16-team field with a 45-over par 909. It was Georgetown’s ninth team win all-time. Popowitz was won the individual title, leading wire-to-wire and posting a 3-over par 219. Overall, four Hoyas finished in the top-20 overall.
