Jan. 16, 2013

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad was selected No. 14 by Lacrosse Magazine which has been releasing its top 20 rankings one team at a time. The women were announced on Monday as the No. 14 team in the publication's preseason poll. The Blue & Gray will open the season on February 16 at Delaware.

Lacrosse Magazine, a publication of US Lacrosse, cited the Hoyas deep midfield and returning scorers as some of the reasons for the top 20 rankings. Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried hired a pair of new assistants over the summer and both are expected to bring something new to the team which is known for its structured play and tough defense.

Georgetown finished the season with a record of 9-8 overall and a mark of 5-3 in BIG EAST Conference play. The Hoyas lose five seniors next season but return their top six scorers and bring in a talented class of eight.

Georgetown will start off 2013 at the University of Delaware Blue Hens on Feb. 16. The Hoyas will open at home on February 23 against Towson University at 1 p.m.
