#2 Georgetown Defeats #17 William and Mary in Women's Lax

WASHINGTON, DC - Four Hoyas scored hat tricks to lead the No. 2-ranked Georgetown University women?s lacrosse team to an 18-3 win over #17 William & Mary on Wednesday, March 17, at North Kehoe Field.  Junior attackers Sarah Oliphant (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Catherine Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), along with senior midfielders Anouk Peters (Ipswich, Mass./Millbrook) and Gloria Lozano (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley), each contributed three goals on the afternoon despite battling the cold and sleet. The victory improves the Hoyas overall record to 4-0 on the season, while The Tribe falls to 3-2.

Lozano put the Hoyas on the scoreboard first just 3:30 into the contest.  The cold then seemed to slow both teams? offense down as neither squad scored again until the 19:22 mark, when Nicole Lewis struck for William and Mary.  Oliphant broke the tie with an unassisted goal at 20:41, followed shortly by another unassisted tally by Lozano at 21:23.  Peters reeled off back-to-back goals at 23:48 and 25:06, with Oliphant and Coco Stanwick (Fr., Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) assisting, to give Georgetown a 5-1 lead.  Elbe then closed out scoring for the first period at 27:43 when she picked up a feed from junior attacker Hollis Pica (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep), who finished the game with a career-high four assists.  The Hoyas enjoyed a 6-1 advantage going into halftime.

Kelly McQuade struck first for The Tribe when she scored a goal just 59 seconds, off an assist from Kristen Wong, into the second stanza.  Georgetown?s offense ignited with a nine-goal run.  Six different Hoyas contributed during the streak, with Oliphant and Elbe adding two each, to give the Hoyas a 13-2 lead at the 37:46 mark.  McQuade scored once more for W&M at 47.05, but it would The Tribe?s last goal of the day.  The Hoyas added three more goals to their total to seal an 18-3 victory.

Junior Sarah Robinson (Great Falls, Va./St. Mark?s School) had a terrific day in goal for the Hoyas.  Robinson rejected 10 William and Mary shots and picked up two ground balls, while giving up just three goals.  Freshman Margaret Farland (Chapel Hill, N.C./St. Andrew?s School) subbed in for Robinson with 4:20 left on the clock and made two saves.  Sophomore Debby Petraacca notched 10 goals for William and Mary and allowed all 18 GU goals.

The Hoyas travel to Durham, N.C., for a contest against #4 Duke University on Sunday, March 21, at 1:00 p.m.  Georgetown returns home to host its next three games against #1 Princeton, BIG EAST foe Rutgers and #12 North Carolina.
