No. 2 Georgetown Hands Boston College a 20-3 Loss in BIG EAST Women's Lax Action
WASHINGTON, DC. – Junior Catherine Elbe (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored five goals, and freshman Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) added three goals and three assists, to lead the No. 2 Georgetown women’s lacrosse team to a 20-3 BIG EAST win over Boston College on Saturday, April 10, on North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in Conference play, while the Eagles fall to 5-7 on the season and 0-4 in league competition.
In addition to Elbe and Stanwick, senior midfielder Michi Ellers tallied her first hat trick of the season. Ellers also contributed three caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls in the contest. Seniors Anouk Peters (Ipswich, Mass./Millbrook School) and Ali Chambers (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) and sophomore Hollis Pica (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep) each chipped in a pair of goals to the GU total. Junior attacker Courtney Legath tallied two of the three Eagles’ goals.
Georgetown ran off eight unanswered goals before Boston College could get on the scoreboard. Three goals came from Elbe, two from Chambers and two from Ellers during the run. Legath finally ended BC’s scoring drought with a goal at 13:56 off an assist from Carley St. Lucia. Pica and Peters notched two more goals to give the Hoyas a 10-1 lead with 4:57 remaining in the half, but Legath registered another tally at the 2:16 mark to make the score 10-2 at halftime.
Sophomore attacker Elizabeth Kadison struck for the first goal of the second stanza just a minute and 13 seconds into the period, but the Hoyas reeled off 10 straight goals, including two by Elbe and Stanwick, to give Georgetown the 20-3 victory.
Georgetown outshot Boston College 37-11 and converted two of five free position shots. Two stats that jump out and will go down in the GU record books: 25 caused turnovers and 12 assists. Georgetown also won 14 of 25 draw controls and picked up 40 ground balls to the Eagles’ 27. Two freshmen also recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers. Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) and Chloe Asselin (Talloires, France/Edgemont) each tallied a goal, with Asselin picking up the assist on Sutton’s score.
Junior Sarah Robinson (Great Falls, Va./St. Mark’s School) and freshman Margaret Farland (Chapel Hill, N.C./St. Andrew’s School) split time in the cage for the Hoyas. Robinson made five saves and allowed just three goals in 52 minutes of playing time. Farland subbed in at the eight-minute mark, but was not called upon to make a save. Sophomore Tara McKennett turned away eight Georgetown shots while allowing all 20 goals.
The Hoyas return to action on Saturday, April 17, when the No. 3 Fighting Irish of Notre Dame pay a visit to North Kehoe Field for a 1:00 p.m. game.
