WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore midfielder Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) was named Second Team All-South Region by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coach's Association (IWLCA) on Friday. This is her first-career IWLCA honor.
Whitehurst was the 2017 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree. She was third on the team in points with 47 on 28 goals and a squad-best 19 assists. The midfielder has also pulled in 73 draw controls to rank first on the team and was second with 17 caused turnovers. Whitehurst scored five goals in a win over George Washington early in the season and also had four goals in a loss to Temple University.
She sits at No. 15 on the all-time list for career draw controls (92) and is fifth in the season ranking with 73 in 2017.
Whitehurst was a three-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week recipient this past season and also earned a pair of nods to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
As a freshman, she was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree. Whitehurst was a 2017 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection.
