WASHINGTON - Georgetown women's lacrosse student-athletes Ashley Hunter (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Caroline Tarzian (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) were both selected to the 2013 IWLCA Division I All-American Third Team as announced earlier today. The IWLCA will honor the 48 student-athletes selected as Division I All-Americans by hosting a banquet on May 25, 2013 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Hunter, a senior defender, was a four year starter for the Hoyas. This marks the first All-American honor of her career. She closed her final season with 2013 IWLCA All-South Region Second Team honors, was a BIG EAST First Team choice and was an All-BIG EAST Tournament selection. Hunter led the Hoyas in caused turnovers with 21, marking the third straight season she recorded 20 or more CTs. She was second for ground balls with a career high 27. For her career Hunter totaled 78 caused turnovers, ranking 10th all-time in the Hoya record books.
Sophomore attacker Tarzian was a 2013 IWLCA First Team All-South selection and an All-BIG EAST First Team choice. She set new career highs and led the team in goals and points with 36 and 50, respectively. Tarzian was one of 25 nominees for the 2013 Tewaaraton Trophy and was a three time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection. This is her first All-American honor. She started all 19 games on attack and has not missed a start in her 36-game career.
The Hoyas lose nine players, including Hunter, from this year's squad that returned the Hoyas to the NCAA Championship. Georgetown earned the sixth seed and a first round bye in the 2013 NCAA Championship. GU compiled a 13-6 overall record and a 6-2 mark in BIG EAST play. Georgetown returns four of its top five scorers along with three of four starting defenders next season.
