Ford, McCraw and Kaestner Named All-American

WASHINGTON - Three Georgetown University women's lacrosse student-athletes have been named All-America by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association. Seniors Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) as well as junior Logan McCraw (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga) earned national recognition for their outstanding play during the 2010 campaign. "This is an incredible honor for our program and for these student-athletes," said Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried. "All three worked hard in the off season to improve their skills and they sacrificed what they needed to for the team's success. I'm glad that their effort and dedication has paid off." Ford, a co-captain, was named to the second team. She also earned First Team All-Region honors after an outstanding senior season. The attacker scored a team-high 51 goals and also had 25 assists for 76 points on the year. She had seven points on three different occasions this year including a six goal, one assist performance at Villanova. Ford also scored the game winner in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinal against Loyola (Md.). She was a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree and the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. This is Ford's third All-America honor and second nod to the second team. McCraw also earned a spot on the second team after making the move to defense this year. The junior posted a team-high 32 caused turnovers this season which ranks this year among the best in program history. She led the squad in ground balls with 40 and was second in draw controls with 39. McCraw was a Second Team Regional All-American and a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree. She was also named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament squad.
Kaestner received the nod to the third team after an incredibly well-rounded career on the Hilltop. The senior was second on the team in scoring with 49 points on 37 goals and 12 assists. She also led the squad in draw controls with 48 and ranked fourth in caused turnovers with 20. The co-captain scored five goals three times this year and scored the game winner in overtime against Loyola (Md.) during the regular season. Kaestner was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament team. She is a three-time Regional and National All-America honoree. Georgetown has had 47 national All-Americans since 1995. This is the eighth time the Hoyas have placed three players on the All-America squad, GU has never had more than four All-Americans in one season. Ford, McCraw and Kaestner were three of 11 All-Americans from the BIG EAST Conference. |
