WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad and Head Coach Ricky Fried have a busy weekend ahead. The Hoyas will play in the Stars & Stripes event hosted by U.S. Lacrosse on Saturday on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Saturday will include three collegiate opponents before facing off against Team USA.
Georgetown will start the day against former-BIG EAST rival Syracuse University. The Orange appeared in last year's national semifinal and have a storied history against the Hoyas. The game is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
At 12:30 p.m., the Blue & Gray will face San Diego State University. The young program was 8-8 a season ago.
The contest against the Aztecs will be followed by a matchup against Northwestern University. The Wildcats also played in the 2013 national semifinal falling to eventual champion, North Carolina. The opening draw is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The collegiate games will all be running-time scrimmages played at fields on campus.
At 6 p.m., Fried will switch sidelines to coach Team USA against his Hoyas. Fried and the U.S. squad are coming off of a gold medal at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup in Ottawa, Canada. He was recently appointed to a second term as the head coach for another four years finishing up at the 2017 FIL World Cup in Surrey, England.
The Hoyas and Team USA will play a full-length game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It will be one of four games on the weekend for the U.S. Women's National Team.
