WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's rowing team traveled to Boston this past weekend, competing in the 47th Head of the Charles Regatta.

It was a solid race for the Georgetown lightweights, finishing fourth of nine teams in the Lightweight Women's Eight event, ahead of Radcliffe's second boat, MIT, McGill, and Tufts. The University of Wisconsin won the event in a time of 16:53.

"I was really proud of the lightweights today because they executed their race according to plan," Head Coach Miranda Paris said. "We have our work cut out for us to close the gap in the coming months, but we've got to start by learning how to do our best on race day, and the lightweights did that today."

The open weight eight struggled, finished 34th of 37 crews in the Championship Women's Eight event.

"We're in the midst of making some big changes on this team, and as you rebuild the foundation, it's not always pretty," Paris said. "We were disappointed because this isn't an accurate reflection of our speed, but we learned some valuable lessons today. We will respond."

Both teams are looking forward to the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J., next weekend, where they will see many of the same crews and have another opportunity to show speed.
