The Hoyas will be competing in the Patriot League for the first time
April 3, 2014
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women’s rowing team was selected to finish fourth in the 2014 Patriot League Preseason Poll. The poll, which was announced on Wednesday, was voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.
2014 will be the first season of competition in the Patriot League for the Hoyas, after previously racing in the BIG EAST. Boston University and Loyola (Md.) are also in their inaugural seasons in the Patriot League.
The Hoyas earned 89 points in the poll, finishing just behind third-place Bucknell (96). Defending champion Navy was picked to finish first with 121 points and nine first-place points. Boston University, which won the CAA Championship in 2013, was selected to finish second with 118 points and eight first-place points.
MIT (71 points), Holy Cross (62 points), Colgate and Lehigh (35 points each) and Loyola (21 points) rounded out the bottom half of the poll.
The Patriot League Championship is scheduled for May 16 on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Patriot League Championship will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships, set to be held May 30-June 1 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.
The Hoyas, who finished fourth at the BIG EAST Championships last season, is coming off of a sweep of the UNC Tar Heels at the Class of 2006 Cup in Raleigh, N.C. The Blue & Gray will next take to the water on Saturday, April 5, when the lightweight squad will compete in the Class of 2004 Regatta against Radcliffe in Boston.
