Georgetown Wins BIG EAST Boat of the Week Award

Women's second varsity eight wins the BIG EAST boat of the week award

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's rowing team's second varsity eight earned BIG EAST boat of the week honors for the first time in the 2013 racing season.

The Hoyas earned wins over St. Joes and MIT at the George Washington Invitational this past weekend. They finished ahead of a second-place St. Joes team Friday afternoon by 1.8 seconds with a time of 6:51.60 and defeated MIT Saturday afternoon, winning by a margin of 14.7 seconds in a time of 6:35.90.

The second varsity eight lineup consisted of coxswain Alison Nagle, stroke Lauren Abrams, Meaghan Bresnahan, Keara Schmeiser, Jen Bisgaier, Emily Buongiorno, Emily Carbone, Jocelyn Hlawaty, Sam Smolka.

The Georgetown rowing team continues competition this weekend when the lightweight team travels to Lake Picket, N.J. to contest Bucknell in the Class of 2012 Cup. Race times are to be determined.
