WASHINGTON - Georgetown University placed two student-athletes on the All-Patriot League Women’s Rowing teams, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Sophomore Monica Firmani (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) was named to the first team while junior Sophie Kershaw (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) collected second team honors for the Hoyas.
Firmani has been a consistent member of the Blue & Gray’s varsity 8+ boat all season, helping the Hoyas to an impressive campaign. The crew was named the Corvias Patriot League Varsity Eight Boat of the Week a record three times and finished fourth in the grand final at the Patriot League Championship. Georgetown also won the Class of 2006 Cup over North Carolina, defeated West Virginia in the season opener and topped eventual Patriot League champion Navy at the GW Invite.
Kershaw helped anchor the second varsity 8+ boat that finished fifth in the grand final at the Patriot League Championship. The Hoyas paced second in a tight four-boat finish in the opening heat and were just four seconds back from finishing second in the grand final.
Georgetown finished third overall at the Patriot League Championship, its best finish since joining the Patriot League for women’s rowing in 2014.
