WASHINGTON – A pair of Georgetown women’s rowing student-athletes were selected to All-Patriot League Teams on Tuesday, following the completion of last week’s Patriot League Championship. Senior Ally Flinn (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Juliene) was named to the first team while fellow senior Carly McCaffrey (El Granada, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) earned a nod to the second team.
Both Flinn and McCaffrey were key components to the Hoyas’ varsity eight boat this season, rowing in the five and stroke seats, respectively. The two seniors helped Georgetown’s V8 to a 6-1 record in dual meets as well as grand final appearances in both the Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints and the Patriot League Championship.
At the Patriot League Championship, held this past weekend on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., the V8 won its morning heat in a time of 7:29.918, the second-fastest time overall in the heats, to advance to the afternoon’s grand final. The Blue & Gray won a tight race with the crew from Bucknell, defeating the Bison by a margin of just over one second (7:30.980). In the grand final, the Hoyas bested their morning time by more than two seconds, crossing the finish line in 7:27.287. However, the Blue & Gray placed fifth in the event, behind the boats from Boston University (7:14.580), Bucknell (7:18.467), MIT (7:19.612) and Navy (7:21.845).
“Ally and Carly have played a huge role in the increasing success of our team as we have progressed each year,” Head Coach Miranda Paris said. “I am grateful to have had the privilege of coaching them over the past three years. They will be greatly missed.”
