WASHINGTON - Coming off a dominating victory in the lightweight fours event at the Head of the Charles, the Georgetown University women's rowing team looks to continue its impressive fall schedule at the Princeton Chase on Sunday. The Hoyas will field a combined five different 8+ crews to compete in the varsity 8+, lightweight 8+ and novice 8+ races.
Opening the day in the varsity openweight 8+ race at 9:30 a.m., the Hoyas are entering two boats in the event. The Blue & Gray will take on a field that includes Brown, Virginia, Princeton, Duke, Northeastern, Dartmouth, Central Florida, Cornell, Drexel, Rhode Island, MIT, George Washington, Navy, Rutgers, North Carolina and Boston College.
"We've had a pretty good fall so far, but we really haven't had a chance to compete to see where we are in comparison to other teams," said Head Coach Stephen Full. "Sunday will be a good chance for us to see where we stand and how good we actually are."
On the lightweight side, the Hoyas will enter two boats in the lightweight 8+ race against a trio of crews from host Princeton. The four rowers who won the lightweight fours at the HOCR will compete in the top lightweight 8+ boat.
"We're coming off a nice win at the Charles but we don't want to be overconfident," added Full. "Traditionally, we haven't fared that well at the Princeton Chase in the past, so we're looking to see how well we've improved so far this season."
Georgetown will also enter a lone boat in the novice 8+ race at 1 p.m. Opponents include Princeton, Dartmouth, North Carolina, Duke, Columbia, Rutgers, Navy and Boston College.
Following the weekend's action, Georgetown closes out the fall racing schedule at the Head of the Occoquan on November 4.
