Naomi Meiburger enters her ninth year with the Hoyas and she was named associate head coach in January 2011 after coming off the most successful season in program history with GU posting a 15-7-2 overall record and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown finished the season ranked No. 18 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Meiburger specializes in working with the Hoya goalkeepers and the defenders. In addition to her on field duties Meiburger also oversees recruiting coordination, travel, equipment, team academics and compliance. Along with Head Coach Dave Nolan and Assistant Coach Mike Calabretta, Meiburger helped secure two NSCAA top 25 recruiting classes (2008, 2010) and one NSCAA top 50 recruiting class (2007). Meiburger was instrumental in training Hoya goalkeeper Jade Higgins (2004-07) and most recently, NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic Region All-American, and Third Team All-BIG EAST selection, Jackie DesJardin (2007-10). During her sophomore season in 2008, DesJardin broke her own school record for season shutouts (11) as she helped Georgetown set the single-season record for fewest goals allowed (14). In 2010 DesJardin led the Hoyas in the NCAA tournament over then-No. 2 Maryland in the second round as well as a shutout of Minnesota in the Sweet Sixteen to give the Hoyas a place in the Elite Eight. Upon graduation DesJardin left for Iceland to continue her career in the professional league there. In addition to coaching at Georgetown, Meiburger has worked with several area club teams including McLean Soccer Club and Reston Football Club. She is currently coaching alongside Calabretta in the Bethesda Soccer Club. Meiburger graduated in 2003 from George Mason, having been a four-year varsity letter winner in women's soccer. During her time at Mason, she was a NSCAA Regional All-American, SoccerBuzz Regional All-American, First-Team All-Virginia and First-Team All-CAA as well as CAA Goalkeeper of the Year in 2002. Meiburger played in the Women's United Soccer League from 2000-05 for teams in Virginia and Maryland. Graduating from Mason in 2003 she earned her B.A. in English, was a CAA Scholar-Athlete all four years and received the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award as a senior. In 2010 Meiburger was a recipient of the BIG EAST Senior Women Administrators scholarship for coaching education which she used to earn her NSCAA Premier Diploma. Currently, Meiburger resides in Reston, Va., with her husband Joe who is an engineer for a local consulting firm. |
