WASHINGTON - Sophomore midfielder Sarah Adams (San Diego, Calif./Westview) scored two goals and junior forward Audra Ayotte (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) assisted on two goals as No. 18 Georgetown beat Quinnipiac, 5-0, at Shaw Field on Sunday afternoon.

It was the second-straight win to open the season for the Hoyas (2-0), while the Bobcats fall to 0-1. The win was also the 13th-straight at home for Georgetown, dating back to the 2011 season.

I wasn't happy with the performance," Head Coach Dave Nolan said. "We did enough to win the game today against a team that had some energy and was well organized. We struggled a little bit to break them down and establish ourselves."

Unlike Friday's season opener when the Hoyas did not score until the second half, Georgetown struck early in Sunday's second game. A pair of shots in the opening 10 minutes, one from Adams and one from junior forward Vanessa Skrumbis (Encino, Calif./Sierra Canyon), were blocked, but GU broke through in the 13th minute. Ayotte slotted a pass through two defenders to Skrumbis, who took a shot from the top of the box and beat Natalia Grodzki at 13:33 for the early lead.

The lead grew to 2-0 before the end of the half when junior forward Jessica Clinton (Avon, Mass./Thayer Academy) tapped in a goal from in front of the net at 39:07. The goal had been set up by freshman Grace Damaska (Milton, Ga./Blessed Trinity), who sent a cross from the far post to junior midfielder Jillian DeGennaro (Westlake Village, Calif./La Reina) on the near post. DeGennaro settled the ball and sent a pass by one defender and to Clinton, who tapped it in for the score.

Adams scored her first goal of the game in the 53rd minute, one-timing a ball from the far post. Senior Kaitlin Brenn (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had crossed the ball from the near post to Ayotte in the box and sent it to Adams, who beat Grodzki at 53:28.

The sophomore added her second goal eight minutes later when Clinton picked up a loose ball in the box and managed to squeeze the ball through two defenders to Adams. She tapped it in from the center of the goal at 61:15, giving Georgetown a 4-0 lead.

The lead grew to 5-0 in the 84th minute when a shot from Damaska was saved by Bobcats goalkeeper Tori Graessle. The ball bounced off of the goalkeeper and to freshman Hannah Howell (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal), who took a blast from the center of the box at 84:43.

Georgetown out-shot Quinnipiac, 17-2, and had four corner kicks to two for the Bobcats.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) made one save in the first half and sophomore Christina Mangels (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) made one save in the second half.

The Hoyas play their first road game of the season on Friday, Aug. 30, visiting George Washington. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. The Blue & Gray are back home on Sunday, Sept. 1, hosting Virginia Commonwealth. Kickoff at Shaw Field is slated for 1 p.m. Live video coverage of the game will be available on the Georgetown Athletics website, www.guhoyas.com, with Tom Kolker calling all of the action.
