Hermann Trophy Watch List
BIG EAST Preseason Women's Soccer Release Aug. 11, 2009
Washington, D.C. - Georgetown redshirt sophomore Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was named today to the 2009 Women's Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List and was a unanimous selection to the 2009 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. This marks the second consecutive season that Wells has been named to the prestigious Hermann Trophy Watch List, the award given to the top player in the nation. It also marks the second-consecutive season a Hoya has been tabbed as a preseason all-BIG EAST selection after graduate student Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was named to the team last year. Wells returns to action on the Hilltop this season after serving as a member of the U.S. Under-20 National Team last year. The 2007 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST selection was a NSCAA/Adidas National All-American and Regional All-American as a freshman. The midfielder started every game for the Hoyas and finished eighth nationally in assists per game, averaging 0.59 per contest. She also tied former GU standout Nicole DePalma for the single-season record in helpers. Her 25 points that year ranked her one behind the single-season record of 26, set by Jessie Beers-Altman in 2002 and matched in 2008 by Wells' teammate, Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson). THE BIG EAST also released their 2009 Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll and Georgetown was tabbed to finish third in the National Division. After achieving their best regular-season finish in BIG EAST history last season, the Hoyas advanced to their fourth BIG EAST postseason appearance in five years. GU trails only nationally-ranked programs Notre Dame and Rutgers on their half of the conference.
