Ayotte Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll; Hoyas Play at N.C. State Wednesday

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior women's soccer player Audra Ayotte (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after helping to lead the Hoyas to a pair of wins last week, a 3-2 win at George Washington and a 4-0 win over VCU on Sunday.

The win on Sunday was the fourth-straight win for Georgetown, ranked No.13 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and No. 14 by Soccer America, who improved to 4-0-0.

Georgetown hits the road for a non-league game on Wednesday, Sept. 4, visiting North Carolina State. The game kicks off at the Dail Soccer Field at 7 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN3. The Wolfpack enter the game with an identical record to the Hoyas at 4-0-0 following wins over Navy, Longwood, Georgia Southern and East Tennessee State.

Ayotte was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after scoring two goals and adding two assists in the weekend victories.

The junior scored the tying goal on Friday in a 3-2 win over George Washington early in the second half and then assisted on the go-ahead goal midway through the period.

On Sunday, she scored GU's third goal and assisted senior Katilin Brenn (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville).on the team's fourth goal.

Overall this season, Ayotte has scored three goals and has five assists for 13 points, leading the team in scoring.

The Hoyas have been led by a balanced attack on the offensive side, with Ayotte and Brenn leading the way. Breen, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, has scored three goals and has two assists for eight points.

Four other players, meanwhile, have scored at least two goals, including junior Vanessa Skrumbis (Encino, Calif./Sierra Canyon), who scored twice in the 4-0 win over VCU on Sunday. Sophomore Sarah Adams (San Diego, Calif./Westview) has scored two goals, while freshmen Grace Damaska (Milton, Ga./Blessed Trinity) and Nicole Varela (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) have each scored two.

 

 

The Georgetown back line - anchored by senior captain Emily Menges (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), along with seniors Colleen Dinn (Kensington, Md./Holy Cross), Mary Kroening (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) and Alexa St. Martin (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) - has been solid through four games, posting two shutouts and allowing only 13 shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run), the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, has posted a 1.45 goals-against average and has made five saves.

This will be Georgetown's first meeting with N.C. State and the first against a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since beating Virginia Tech, 3-2, in overtime of the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
