Sept. 26, 2011
WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior women's soccer player Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. Trujillo was also selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week. Trujillo helped the Hoyas to a pair of BIG EAST Conference wins over the weekend, beating Syracuse, 3-1 on Friday, and St. John's, 2-1 in overtime on Sunday. It gave Georgetown three-straight wins, and five wins in the last six games, as the team improved to 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the BIG EAST. Trujillo was a catalyst during the weekend wins in New York, scoring three goals and adding one assist to lead the offensive charge. On Friday at Syracuse, she was involved in all three goals, scoring two and assisting on the third. On Sunday, her goal gave GU a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Trujillo's first goal at Syracuse came in the first half. She took a ball that deflected off a defender and put it away in the box, sending a high shot from the middle to the back of the net after a cross from redshirt senior midfielder Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair). The lead increased to 2-0 in the 62nd minute when Trujillo crossed a ball into the box, where freshman midfielder Daphne Corboz (Greenbrook, N.J./Watchung Hills) put it away to the left side for her fifth goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Trujillo scored her third goal in the last two games, this time unassisted, at 62:27, giving the Hoyas a 3-0 lead. On Sunday, Georgetown had taken a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute when Trujillo scored her third goal of the weekend. A free kick from Baker from the far sideline went to the near post and Trujillo controlled the ball and slipped a shot past Ferris, giving the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.
Trujillo is tied for third on the team in scoring with 10 points off four goals and two assists. An All-BIG EAST selection last year and scoring 28 points, including 13 goals, Trujillo now has 63 points in her career, which ranks sixth all-time on the Hilltop. Her 26 career goals rank tied for third all-time with Christina Brunner ('97). The Hoyas are back in action again this weekend, hosting BIG EAST rival West Virginia (9-3-0, 4-0-0) on Friday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at North Kehoe Field is slated for 3 p.m. |
