BOX SCORE

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s soccer team (6-8-1, 2-4) scored four goals in the final 20 minutes of play to overcome an early and long-lasting Liberty lead, giving the Hoyas their first win in six games.

Liberty took the lead 10 minutes into the game on a free kick by Lauren Zealand.  As GU goalkeeper Jade Higgins (Fr., Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) and Liberty?s Kendall Bartholomew battled for position in front of the goal, Zealand?s kick sailed past them both and into the net for the score.

Liberty maintained their lead until the 72 minute mark when they committed a handball on a Shara McNeill (Jr., Avon, Conn./ Avon) shot directly in front of the goal.  Nicole DePalma (Sr., Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) converted the penalty kick and the Hoyas tied the score at 1.  Six minutes later, McNeil once again found herself in front of the goal, firing a shot off Liberty?s keeper which was followed up by Casey McCann (Sr., Mendham, N.J./Mendham) for the go-ahead score.

McNeill added another assist three minutes later when her cross was headed in by Chrissy Skogen (So., San Marino, Calif./San Marino), and DePalma scored her second goal of the game four minutes later on a pass from Sarah Fetters (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas).  Overall, the Hoyas? offensive assault lasted less than 15 minutes and resulted in four straight goals and a comfortable Georgetown victory.

Georgetown was busy offensively all day, shooting 25 times and putting 14 shots on goal.  Although the Hoyas gave up the early lead, they held Liberty to few offensive opportunities, allowing only seven shots and three shots on goal.

The Hoyas will look to carry their momentum into their final home game of the season as they face BIG EAST opponent Seton Hall on Friday, October 22nd.  Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
