Mary Kroening Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week; Ayotte to Honor Roll

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior women's soccer player Mary Kroening (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Junior forward Audra Ayotte (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Georgetown closed out the regular season on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Seton Hall at Shaw Field. The Hoyas finished the regular season with a 15-1-2 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in BIG EAST play.
Georgetown, ranked No. 15 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and No. 9 by Soccer America, earned a bye into the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals, being held on Friday, Nov. 8. GU plays the winner of a match between No. 3 seed DePaul and No. 6 Villanova on Friday in Milwaukee.
Over the weekend, however, the Hoyas extended their unbeaten streak at home to 22 games with the 2-0 win over Seton Hall. GU is 9-0-2 at home this season and has not lost at Shaw Field since the 2011 sesaon.
Kroening and her defensive mates helped that charge, limiting the Pirates to only three shots as the Blue & Gray posted their ninth shutout of the season. Kroening assisted on the team's second goal, giving her 12 points this season, coming off five goals and two assists.
Ayotte is tied for second on the team in scoring with 22 points, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists, second on the team. She ranks tied for fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring and is second in the league in assists, to junior midfielder Daphne Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills).
