No. 13 Georgetown Drops Second-Straight Game, Loses to Wake Forest 2-0
The No. 13-ranked Georgetown University women's soccer team gave up a goal late in the first half and had some chances in the second half, but could not capitalize en route to a 2-0 loss to Wake Forest in the second round of the Hokie Invitational Sunday afternoon.

GU made history Sunday afternoon, winning the BIG EAST Championship with a 3-0 victory over the Butler Bulldogs and earning an NCAA automatic bid. The win was the program's first back-to-back tournament championship and the first time that the Hoyas won the regular season and the tournament in the same season. Only four teams in league history have won back-to-back titles.

Georgetown will be making its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and its seventh in the last eight years. The squad has an RPI of 33 in the most recent report.

Last season, the Hoyas advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the first time in program history and lost to eventual national champion Southern California, 1-0, in a national semifinal. The Hoyas finished the season with a 20-3-3 overall record and won the BIG EAST Tournament Championship for the first time in program history. Georgetown set program records for wins (20), shutouts (17) and goals scored (61) in a season.

Georgetown made its first NCAA appearance in 2007, falling to William & Mary, 2-1, in the first round. In 2010, the Blue & Gray advanced to the Elite Eight after a win over Siena (5-1), a 1-1 draw against Maryland (a 4-2 win in penalty kicks) and a win at Minnesota (1-0). The run ended with a 2-0 loss to Ohio State.

In 2012, GU beat Virginia Tech, 3-2, in overtime in the first round, before losing to Baylor in the second round, a 2-1 overtime loss. In 2013, the Hoyas hosted LaSalle in the first round and posted a 2-0 win before losing to top-seeded Virginia, 1-0, in the second round. In 2014, GU advanced in penalty kicks at West Virginia in the first round and lost in overtime at Virginia Tech in the second round.

Wake Forest (11-5-3) finished ACC play with a mark of 5-4-2. The Demon Deacons fell, 2-1, to the Virginia in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. The team is currently ranked 24th in the United Soccer Coaches poll and has an RPI of 42 in the most recent output.

The Hoyas are 0-1-0 all-time against the Demon Deacons with the lone meeting coming at the Virginia Tech Tournament during the 2014 season. Georgetown fell, 2-0, in that contest. This is the teams' first meeting in postseason play.

There will be a familiar face on the sidelines as Georgetown Assistant Coach Kristin Meier was a four-year letterwinner at Wake Forest and was on the last team to make an appearance in the NCAA College Cup.

The winner of the Wake Forest-Georgetown game will advance to the second round, playing the winner of a match between third-seeded Penn State and Stony Brook.
