Corboz Named Semifinalist for MAC Hermann Trophy

Georgetown University sophomore women's soccer player Daphne Corboz was one of 15 players nationally selected as a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy.

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University sophomore women's soccer player Daphne Corboz (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills) was one of 15 players nationally selected as a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, it was announced today.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. It is presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

NCAA Division I coaches will help select the winner. New this year is a fan voting component, conducted through LockerDome, which allows fans to also contribute to picking this year's MAC Hermann Trophy winners.

Corboz helped to lead Georgetown to one of the most successful seasons in program history as the Hoyas set a school record with 16 wins. The Blue & Gray finished the 2012 season with a 16-4-3 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Along the way, the Hoyas posted an 8-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Conference and won the BIG EAST National Division title.

A 5-2 sophomore, Corboz was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year after a record-setting season for the Hoyas. Overall, Corboz set a Georgetown single-season record with 44 points scored. She scored a school single-season record 18 goals while adding eight assists. Corboz ranks 11th in the country in points per game (1.91), 10th in goals per game and is tied for seventh in goals scored overall (18).

In 10 BIG EAST Conference games this season, she tallied a league-high 27 points and 12 goals. Corboz, who scored at least one point in six league games, set a BIG EAST record with 11 points in an 8-0 win at Pittsburgh on Sept. 30, scoring five goals.

Georgetown junior men's soccer player Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) was selected as one of 15 semifinalists on the men's side. The Hoyas were the only Division I school to have a player selected to both the men's and the women's semifinalist lists.
