Georgetown Softball Beats Liberty, Falls to Elon on Opening Day of Elon Tournament

Junior catcher Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore outfielder Samantha Findling (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) combined for seven hits and five runs for Georgetown (1-1) on Saturday against Liberty and Elon. The Hoyas beat Liberty 9-2 and lost to Elon 8-0.

Georgetown begins its third season of BIG EAST play behind seniors Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) and pitcher MacKensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo). The Blue & Gray returns ten players from last season. The team consists of two seniors, two juniors, seven sophomores and four freshmen for the 2012 season.

The Georgetown University softball team welcomes five new players for the 2011-12 season in Samantha Findling (Norcross, Ga./Norcross/Michigan State), Cristina Fletcher (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School), Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King), Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), and Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada).

Mackensey Carter Earns All-BIG EAST Honors for Third Consecutive Year

Junior Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second consecutive season when the league announced its year-end awards at the 2011 BIG EAST Softball Championship banquet in Louisville, Ky. on Wednesday evening.
