Jennifer Connell Shuts Out Tennessee Tech To Give Hoyas a 1-0 Victory

Kennesaw, Ga. - Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) tossed a four-hit shut-out and sophomore Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Georgetown University softball team (1-2) picked up their first win of the season, defeating Tennessee Tech, 1-0 on Saturday at the Kennesaw State University Tournament.
Connell, who had allowed just two earned runs in her first 8.2 innings pitched, received timely fielding help, as four Golden Eagles reached third base, but were kept from crossing the plate.
After sophomore Olivia Newhouse's (Weston, Conn./Green Farms Academy) single in the third inning, GU was held hitless until the sixth inning. In the sixth inning sophomore reached on a fielding error and advanced to second base. She moved to third base on sophomore Jadiq Garcia's (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) sacrifice bunt then scored on Peters' (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) single, to give the blue and gray its first lead of the season.
Connell retired the Golden Eagles in order in the top of the seventh to preserve the Hoyas, 1-0 victory.
