WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team kept a close game but once again it was not enough to defeat Kansas, with a final score of 5-2. The game marked Georgetown's second against the Jayhawks and fourth overall at the FIU Tournament in Miami, Fla.

Kansas scored three runs in the early innings of the game before Georgetown put up two in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) reached base with two outs and eventually came around to score after a single down the left field line by Madeleine Giaquinto (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell), her first RBI of the season. Cristina Fletcher (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School) would come in to pinch run for Giaquinto after the at-bat. Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) also entered in the game as a pinch hitter and did her job, bringing home Fletcher with a single of her own. The Hoyas would only be down one run after the top half of the sixth inning.

Hyson would allow two more runs to score in the bottom half of the inning and the Hoyas were unable to pull off the comeback in the seventh. She struck out three batters over six innings for Georgetown in her second start of the season. Alex Hugo had a big game for the Jayhawks, totaling four RBI with a triple and a homerun.

Georgetown rounds out their trip to Florida with one last game on Sunday, Feb. 10 with the opponent to-be-determined.
