Georgetown Softball Beats Liberty, Falls to Elon on Opening Day of Elon Tournament

WASHINGTON - Junior catcher Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore outfielder Samantha Findling (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) combined for seven hits and five runs for Georgetown (1-1) on Saturday against Liberty and Elon.  The Hoyas beat Liberty 9-2 and lost to Elon 8-0.

Lowe and Findling lead a high-powered offense against Liberty, scoring five of the team’s nine runs. Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) added two runs, and Madeleine Giaquinto (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O’Connell) tallied four RBI’s in the win.

Senior pitcher Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) took the win on the mound for the Blue & Gray. Carter had three strikeouts in 14 at bats.

Carter was relieved by Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) after four innings. Hyson had four strikeouts in her first career game for the Hoyas.

In the afternoon contest, Elon scored quickly with three runs at the top of the first inning, and two runs in the second inning. Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and Lauren O’Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched two innings apiece for Georgetown.

The Blue & Gray close the weekend with games against North Carolina Central and Liberty on Sunday.
