WASHINGTON - Alexandria Antilla (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) got her second RBI of the season and Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) split the pitching duties as the Georgetown softball team fell 8-1 to an undefeated USC Upstate team (10-0) on the final day of the Coke Zero Spartan Classic in Spartansburg, S.C.
In the third game in two days for the Hoyas, USC Upstate took the early lead with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Georgetown kept it a one run game going into the fourth inning but could not contain the Spartan bats in the later innings of the game. They would score 2 in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth inning, including another solo homerun, until Georgetown finally got on the board in the sixth inning.
Senior captain Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) led off the sixth with a single up the middle before freshman C.J. Semones (Bethany, CT/Amity Regional) came in to pinch run for Lowe after the hit. Lowe leads the team with a .300 batting average this season. Hyson followed up with a double to left field that advanced Semones to third. Antilla would hit a sac fly to left field later in the inning to bring in the first run of the weekend for the Hoyas. Unfortunately that would be the only run Georgetown would score in the game. USC Upstate would add two more in the bottom of the inning to cement the 8-1 victory.
The Georgetown softball team (1-10) will be practicing all week for their upcoming tournament in Kissimmee, Florida at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports complex next weekend. Tournament details and opponents are still to be determined.
