Georgetown Softball Falls to UTC, 8-0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Georgetown University softball team (4-4) fell behind early and was unable to muster any offense against host University of Tennessee Chattanooga's pitching, losing 8-0 in six innings.
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned on eight hits over 4.0 innings, while striking out three. Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) and McKinley Cooper (McLean, Va./Langley) managed the Hoyas only two hits.
The Mocs scored two runs in the first inning on Tiffany Baker's two run double to right center and never looked back. Kaiti Kelley would drive in a run with a single in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Carter would keep UTC's bats quiet in the third inning, but Kelley struck again in the fourth inning with a two run single through the right side of the infield to take a 5-0 lead. The Mocs would score three more in the sixth inning against Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) to end the game at 8-0.
The Hoyas return to the field for their final game of the Frost Classic on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. when they take on Lipscomb.
