BALTIMORE, Md. - BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior 3B Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) drove in two runs in each the first and second inning, as the Georgetown University softball team (7-13) snapped a seven-game losing slide, defeating Mount Saint Mary's, 7-3 on Sunday morning at the UMBC Spring Classic.

Cipriano finished the day going 2-for-4 with four RBI's to lead the Hoyas offense, while Kristi Preuss (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) went 2-for-3 with two runs and Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) scored two more runs. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) allowed three runs, two earned on four hits over 7.0 innings to earn the victory.

The Mountaineers got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to put the Hoyas in a hole. They would respond, as Peters opened the bottom of the first inning getting hit by a pitch. Preuss drew a two-out walk before Cipriano doubled to left field to drive in two runs and tie the score at two runs apiece.

Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake), who would go 2-for-2 with a run on the day, kept the Blue and Gray offense going in the bottom of the second inning, leading off with a bunt single. She would steal second and score on a Mount throwing error. With two runners on base, Cipriano would strike again, this time doubling to right center field to score two runs, giving the Hoyas 6-2 lead.

Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) helped GU add another run in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single that drove in Danielle Cyr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), giving the Hoyas a 7-2 lead.

Mount Saint Mary's put one more run on the board with a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning, but Connell would escape the sixth with no more damage and retire the side in order in the seventh to earn the victory.
