Tampa, Fla. - Tampa, Fla. - The Georgetown softball team (5-17, 0-4 BIG EAST) dropped the second half of a doubleheader to South Florida (27-13, 6-2 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon, as the Bulls scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and never trailed beyond that point to win 4-1.
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) allowed four runs, two earned on eight hits over 6.0 innings to take the loss for the Hoyas. McKinley Cooper (McLean, Va./Langley) went 3-for-3 driving in the Hoyas only run for the second straight game.
The Hoyas got on the board first after Olivia Newhouse (Weston, Conn./Green Farms Academy) singled to centerfield and advanced to second on a groundout. With two outs Cooper singled to right center to bring Newhouse home, giving Georgetown a 1-0 lead.
USF answered quickly, as Janine Richardson reached base on a error to lead off the inning. After two more South Florida hits, Richardson scored the Bulls first run. Cat Olnick would later score on an error to give USF a 2-1 lead. They would expand their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on Alison Savarese's sacrifice fly and then score their final run on Ashley Bullion's solo home run that led off the sixth inning.
