Hoyas Drop Doubleheader Against Villanova

Hannah Slovacek has had at least one hit in six of her last seven games.

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (19-29, 3-12 BIG EAST) lost both games of a doubleheader against Villanova (30-20, 4-12 BIG EAST) at Guy Mason Field this afternoon by a score of 4-1 and 4-3.

Senior pitcher Mackensey Carter( Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) held off the Wildcats in the first two innings. In the second Carter had two on base with no outs but retired the final three batters to keep the score 0-0.  

The Hoyas committed three errors in the third inning to give Villanova the 1-0 lead.

Georgetown responded in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Hansen (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) hit a single to center field to lead off. Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) got the sacrifice bunt to advance Hansen to second. Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and third with two outs gone. Taylor Koenig (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) slammed a single to right center, bringing in the only Georgetown run of the game.

In the second contest Villanova took an early 2-0 lead in the second. A home run from Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) brought the Blue & Gray back within a run in the bottom of the third.

Villanova made the score 4-2 in the fifth.

The Hoyas staged a comeback in the sixth inning. Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and Graziano both hit singles to put runners at first and second with two outs gone. A passed ball put Slovacek on third and Graziano at second. Samantha Findling (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) nailed a two-RBI single up the middle with a 3-2 count to make the score 4-3. Georgetown couldn't convert to score in the final inning.

Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) took the loss in the second game on the mound.

Georgetown softball will wrap up its regular season schedule with a three-game series in Louisville, Ky., against No. 9 Louisville beginning on Saturday, April 28. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon at Ulmer Stadium.
