Softball Ends the Season with Doubleheader Loss at Longwood

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown softball team lost a doubleheader at Longwood today, 17-0 in the first game and 6-0 in the second game. This ends the inaugural season of Georgetown softball with a record of 4-23.

In the first game, freshman second baseman Katherine Incantalupo (Forest Hills, N.Y./Townsend Harris) and freshman rightfielder Christina Gallinari (Crestwood, N.Y./Loyola School) recorded hits.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Clark (Ridgewood, N.J./Choate Rosemary Hall) pitched four innings allowing 17 runs off 17 hits.

In the second half of the twinbill, sophomore catcher Brittany Sonnichsen (Madison, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) notched a hit. Sophomore pitcher Anna Wheatley (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands/Antilles) laced two hits in the game.

Wheatley pitched six innings allowing six runs off seven hits.

The Georgetown softball program ends its first season with an impressive list of accomplishments.

From the first at bat that turned into the program's first hit with a single from Incantalupo on March 2 to the program's first win with a 7-2 victory over Coppin State at the 2006 Capital Classic on March 12.

Clark pitched the first shutout in program history on April 19 with a 3-0 shutout at George Mason, and the program's first doubleheader sweep was on April 24 with 2-1 and 6-3 victories over Coppin State.

At 4-23, the inaugural season of Georgetown softball comes to an end.
