Seton Hall at Georgetown | W, 8-0 (6) | Box Score
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team (26-21, 12-8 BIG EAST) complete the three-game sweep of the Seton Hall Pirates (15-34, 9-12 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas defeated the Pirates, 8-0, in six innings. Junior starting pitcher Megan Hyson (W, 15-11, Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) threw her second two-hit shutout in as many days on the final weekend of conference play.
The Hoyas limited Seton Hall to just one run over three games as GU outscored its opponent 16-1. Hyson threw 13.0 innings between Saturday and Sunday, allowing just four hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts. She lowered her season earned run average to 2.38.
The Georgetown junior starting pitcher allowed her first hit on Saturday after 4.2 innings.
GU scored first, driving in two runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) continued her strong weekend at the plate with a RBI double to right center, scoring sophomore Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial). Sophomore Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) was hit by a pitch on the next play to load the bases for junior Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King), who walked on four pitches to drive in the second run. The Hoyas led 2-0 after two.
Georgetown tacked on three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to earn the run-rule victory.
Senior Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) drew a leadoff walk in the fifth and proceeded to steal second and third base before an error allowed her to score safely. Senior Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake) hit a two-run homer in the same inning to give the Blue & Gray a comfortable 5-0 lead.
In the sixth, Georgetown used three hits and two Seton Hall errors to close out the game. Sophomore Grace Appelbe (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) ended the game on a single that score Graziano and senior Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd).
