Seton Hall at Georgetown | W, 8-0 (6) | Box Score
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown softball team (26-21, 12-8 BIG EAST) complete the three-game sweep of the Seton Hall Pirates (15-34, 9-12 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas defeated the Pirates, 8-0, in six innings. Junior starting pitcher Megan Hyson (W, 15-11, Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) threw her second two-hit shutout in as many days on the final weekend of conference play.
The Hoyas limited Seton Hall to just one run over three games as GU outscored its opponent 16-1. Hyson threw 13.0 innings between Saturday and Sunday, allowing just four hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts. She lowered her season earned run average to 2.38.
The Georgetown junior starting pitcher allowed her first hit on Saturday after 4.2 innings.
GU scored first, driving in two runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) continued her strong weekend at the plate with a RBI double to right center, scoring sophomore Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial). Sophomore Taylor Henry (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) was hit by a pitch on the next play to load the bases for junior Sophia Gargicevich-Almeida (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King), who walked on four pitches to drive in the second run. The Hoyas led 2-0 after two.
Georgetown tacked on three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to earn the run-rule victory.
Senior Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) drew a leadoff walk in the fifth and proceeded to steal second and third base before an error allowed her to score safely. Senior Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake) hit a two-run homer in the same inning to give the Blue & Gray a comfortable 5-0 lead.
In the sixth, Georgetown used three hits and two Seton Hall errors to close out the game. Sophomore Grace Appelbe (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) ended the game on a single that score Graziano and senior Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd).
The four-team BIG EAST Championship field is now set for the upcoming weekend in Chicago at The Ballpark at Rosemont. Georgetown earned the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 St. John’s on Friday, May 9 at 4:30 p.m. (ET). No. 1 DePaul will go against No. 4 Creighton at 2 p.m. (ET) on Friday. The two semifinals games will be televised on FOX Sports 2.
The championship game will be Saturday, May 10 at noon (ET) on FOX Sports 1.

Georgetown and St. John’s (27-22, 12-8 BIG EAST) finished in a tie for second place in the league standings but the Red Storm won 2-of-3 against the Hoyas in their regular-season series to take the No. 2 seed and push GU to No. 3.
The Hoyas, guided by Head Coach Pat Conlan, are making their second consecutive trip to the BIG EAST Championship in what is also their second appearance in program history. GU fell to DePaul, 1-0, in the opening game of last season’s tournament. St. John’s, coached by Amy Kvilhaug, is making its eighth trip to the BIG EAST Championship. The Red Storm are 3-10 at the league tournament, advancing to the Semifinals in their most recent appearance in 2012.
