Georgetown Softball Travels to South Carolina for USC-Upstate Tournament

The Georgetown University softball team (2-2) travels to Spartansburg, S.C. this weekend to play four games against UNC-Wilmington (1-1) on Friday, George Mason (1-3) and Howard University (0-3) on Saturday, and USC-Upstate (3-0) on Sunday.

The Hoyas post two wins and two losses after competing in the Elon Tournament last weekend. Senior Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) leads the Blue & Gray on offense for the season with a .445 batting average and four RBI’s. She is also batting .714 against right-handed pitchers.

Freshman pitcher Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) is currently holding opposing batters to a batting percentage of .217 in two appearances and six innings.  

UNC-Wilmington enters the contest on Friday after a doubleheader against North Carolina Central on February 10. The Hoyas played North Carolina Central on February 12 to a 13-5 win. The Hawks also have five players batting .500 or better.

Local rival George Mason is on a three-game losing streak. The Patriots have yet to come back and win after trailing an opponent this season. Katie Rynex is currently batting .667 for George Mason.

In another D.C. match-up, Howard enters the contest with Georgetown after three games against Savannah State last weekend. The Bison lost by an average of seven runs in the series.

USC-Upstate is currently 3-0 behind shutout wins against Ohio, St. Bonaventure, and Detroit. The Spartans have beaten their opponents by an average of over seven runs per game.

First pitch against UNC-Wilmington will be at 6 p.m. on Friday.
