Freshman Megan Hyson Named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week

WASHINGTON - Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) was named the BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week when the conference announced weekly honors on Monday afternoon. This is the first BIG EAST award for the freshman.Hyson pitched her first career no-hitter against Howard University on Saturday, February 18. In seven innings against the Bison, Hyson also recorded eleven strikeouts. She currently posts a 1.38 ERA in two wins on the mound. The Hoyas competed against UNC-Wilmington, George Mason, and Howard over the weekend. This is the first time a Georgetown pitcher has been named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week in the program's history. Georgetown has been a BIG EAST Softball member since the 2008-09 season. In 13 innings pitched, Hyson has struck out 22 batters, allowing just two runs and five hits this season. The freshman was selected to the Washington Post All-Met team in 2011, and was named the Baltimore Sun's 2011 All-Met Player of the Year as a high school senior. In addition to her pitching, Hyson hit the first home run of the season for the Hoyas against UNC-Wilmington on Friday. Georgetown softball (5-2) travels to Raleigh, N.C. next weekend to compete in the N.C. State Wolfpack Challenge.
