Georgetown Softball Hits the Road for UMBC Spring Classic

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (10-15) will compete in the UMBC Spring Classic this weekend with games against St. Francis (Pa.) (7-8), Robert Morris (6-11), Sacred Heart (4-11), and Mount St. Mary’s (5-14) on Friday, March 16 and Sunday, March 18.

The Hoyas are coming off a 3-0 win at Drexel (6-10) on Wednesday. Georgetown has won two of its last three.

The Blue & Gray is currently averaging 3.84 runs scored per game, with a season average of 6.02 hits per game. Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) leads all hitters, averaging one hit per game and batting .385. Taylor Koenig (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) looks to extend her three-game hitting streak at the UMBC Spring Classic.

Georgetown will meet St. Francis (Pa.) for the second time this season on Friday at 11:25 a.m. The Red Flash took a 1-0 win less than one week ago at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament in Ft. Myers, Fla.

In the second game on Friday, the Hoyas will face Robert Morris at 3:45 p.m. The Colonials enter the UMBC Spring Classic on a seven-game losing streak.

Georgetown will play Sacred Heart on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Nicole Sidor leads the pitching campaign for Sacred Heart with a 1.47 ERA and an average of 7.62 strikeouts per game.

The final game will be against Mount St. Mary’s at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 18. The Mountaineers currently post a team batting average of .220, with an on-base percentage of .310.

The Hoyas will begin BIG EAST Conference play next weekend at home against Notre Dame on Saturday, March 24. The opening doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Guy Mason Field.
