Georgetown Continues BIG EAST Road Trip at St. John's This Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (15-25, 0-8 BIG EAST) travels to Queens, N.Y., to face St. John's (14-25, 2-6 BIG EAST) for a three-game series beginning Saturday, April 14 at noon. The Hoyas dropped a mid-week doubleheader at Pitt on Wednesday 2-1, 11-0. Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched a four-hit game in the 2-1 loss with five strikeouts and just one walked batter. Hannah Slovacek (Austin, Texas/Westlake), Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) each went one-for-three in the first contest and Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) was walked three times to lead the Georgetown offense. The Panthers held the Blue & Gray to one hit in the 11-0 loss. Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) leads all Georgetown batters in BIG EAST play batting .333 and recording six hits. Senior outfielder Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) has two RBI against BIG EAST opponents for the Hoyas. The Hoyas enter the series looking for their first BIG EAST win this season after a series rain out against Notre Dame on March 24-25, a three-game series at Rutgers, and three-game home stand against DePaul, and the doubleheader at Pitt on Wednesday. ST. JOHNS: The Red Storm has earned its two BIG EAST wins against No. 25 Syracuse on March 31 and Providence on March 28. St. John's suffered a series sweep against No. 18 USF in Tampa last weekend. Kristi Cady leads the Red Storm batting .367 with 20 RBI. Kacee Cox has posted 29 RBI with 9 home runs in 2012. Ashley Beza has thrown to a 3.10 ERA to best all St. John's pitchers. The opening doubleheader is slated to begin at noon on Saturday, April 14, with the second game tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. The series conclusion will be on Sunday April 15 with one game at noon.
