Softball Travels to Rhode Island This Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (18-26, 7-6 BIG EAST) resumes BIG EAST play this weekend when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on the Providence Friars (15-23-1, 2-9 BIG EAST) in a three game series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 with games scheduled for noon and 2p.m. and the final game of the series will take place on Sunday, April 21 at noon. Georgetown gets back to BIG EAST action after breaking from conference play in a midweek matchup with UMBC on Wednesday. The Hoyas won the contest 8-3, drawing a season-high 10 walks at the plate and used a 2-RBI single from freshman Samantha Giovanniello (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) to put runs on the board. Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) picked up her 12th win of the season on the mound in the win.

Georgetown is currently fifth in the BIG EAST conference standings with 10 games remaining on the regular season schedule this season. The Hoyas are vying for a first-ever trip to the BIG EAST tournament since joining the conference in the 2005-2006 season, with the top eight teams in the conference making the trip to Tampa, Fl. Providence is currently 2-9 in BIG EAST play, 11th in the conference.
