Savarese Named to BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll

WASHINGTON - First baseman/outfielder Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) was named to the BIG EAST Softball Honor Roll on Monday, April 23 when the conference announced its weekly awards. The senior went seven-for-eleven to lead the Hoyas on offense last week against Towson and Providence.

In the 3-1 win over Towson on Thursday, April 21 Savarese hit a double with the scored tied 1-1 in the eighth inning to send the go-ahead run home. She went three-for-four in the victory against the Tigers.

Savarese went three-for-three in the 2-0 win over the Providence Friars in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the three games against Towson and Providence, the senior batted .636 as well as recording an on-base percentage of .636. In addition to seven hits she recorded one RBI and one scored run.

This is the second time the first baseman/outfielder has been named to the BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll. She is currently batting .307 with 13 RBI this season.

Savarese will be honored with fellow senior Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) this Wednesday at 2 p.m. prior to the first pitch in a BIG EAST doubleheader against Villanova (28-20, 2-12 BIG EAST) at Guy Mason Field for her four-year contributions to the Hoyas softball program.

"Cara made an immediate impact when she joined the program four years ago,” said Head Coach Pat Conlan. “She has spent her career making valuable contributions both on and off the field. She is highly driven and well respected by her teammates who love her infectious personality.  We will miss her presence on the team."
