WASHINGTON – Junior Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) of the Georgetown softball team was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her part in the Hoyas’ three-game sweep against the Seton Hall Pirates in the final weekend of regular season conference play. The news came via the conference on Monday afternoon. The three victories helped GU earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship in Chicago.
Hyson threw a pair complete game shutouts on Saturday and Sunday as she limited the Pirates to two hits in each game to help the Hoyas earn their second-consecutive BIG EAST Championship berth, the first two in program history.
The junior starting pitcher went 7.0 innings on Saturday, allowing just two hits in the 2-0 win. Hyson surrendered her first hit in the top of the fifth.
On Sunday, Hyson and the Hoyas followed up the performance with an 8-0 blanking of the Pirates. Hyson allowed her first hit with two outs in the fifth, helping her earn her 15th win.
Over her last three starts, Hyson has allowed just one run and five hits over 18.0 innings as she lowered her overall earned run average to 2.38.
This is the second time this season that Hyson was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. She has also been selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll three times.
The Hoyas open the BIG EAST Championship against St. John’s in a semifinal matchup on Friday, May 9 at 4:30 p.m. (ET) at the Ballpark at Rosemont in Chicago, Ill.
