WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team will finish up the season this weekend when it travels to Indianapolis on Friday for a weekend BIG EAST Conference series at Butler. The Hoyas enter the weekend with an 11-34 mark and 4-13 in conference play, while the Bulldogs are sitting at 20-28 and 8-9 in league play.
The last meeting between the two teams came in 2015 when the Hoyas traveled to Butler for a conference series. The Bulldogs took all three games in the weekend. Gabriela Elvina (Edison, N.J./Bishop George Ahr) was the leading hitter for GU with a pair of hits and hit a home run. The 2016 series against Butler was cancelled due to rain in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Blue & Gray are coming off an 0-3 series against St. John’s this past weekend. Mallory Belknap (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led the way with a hit in all three of the games. Hannah Ramsey (Buda, Texas/ Jack C. Hays) contributed a multi-hit performance in the first game of the series.
Belknap enters the game as the BIG EAST’s leading hitter with 60 hits and a .380 batting average, which is good for second. Elvina is second on the team with a .331 batting average, and Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) is hitting .308. Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) is just off the pace, hitting .290, but her six home runs are a team-high and she also has 24 RBI which is tied for the team-best with Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern). Kane is also tied for the conference lead with four triples and tied for fourth place with 14 stolen bases.
In the circle, Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John’s School) is the conference leader in strikeouts with 169 total and is also third in innings pitched at 148.
