WASHINGTON - Freshman softball player Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Mideast second team All-Region when the NFCA announced the honors on May 17.

Hyson was named BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week on February 20 after pitching a no-hitter against Howard on February 18. The freshman finished the 2011-12 season ranked first all-time in single season ERA (2.53) and first in single season opposing batting average (.207). She notched 87 strikeouts in 92.1 innings in her freshman season.

From the plate, Hyson ranked third on the team in batting average (.252), and recorded 29 hits, 12 RBI and three home runs. As a pitcher and utility player Hyson also recorded an on base percentage of .404.

This is the fourth time a Hoya has been honored as an NFCA All-Region selection. Senior Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) has been named NFCA All-Region for the last three years.

The NFCA named 263 student-athletes from 129 different colleges and universities across 10 regions to the first and second All-Region teams. The NFCA All-America selections will be announced on Wednesday, May 30.
