Softball Announces Four Letters of Intent for 2012-13 Season

Georgetown softball announced four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season. The Hoyas look to add depth to a young squad.Mikaela Bledsoe Downes attends Horizon Honors High School in Phoenix, AZ. She plays third base and catcher. Bledsoe Downes is a three-year varsity captain of her high school softball team and 2011 2A Central Region Player of the Year. She earned a spot on the All-State Second Team in 2011, and was named First Team All-Region for three years from 2009-11. She plays travel softball with the Arizona Hotshots. Samantha Giovanniello hails from Floral Park Memorial High School in Floral Park, NY. Giovanniello plays infield. She was 2009 New York State Player of the Year, helping her team win the New York State Softball Championship. In 2009 and 2010, she was named First Team All-State, First Team All-Long Island, and Newsday's Nassau County Player of the Year in both seasons. She plays her travel softball for Team Long Island Gold. Taylor Henry attends Skyline High School in Front Royal, Va. and plays infield. She was named MVP of the Skyline softball team in 2009 and 2010. Henry earned a spot on the All-District first team in 2011 and the second team in 2010. She was also named Athlete of the Year at Skyline High School in 2011. Molly Morrison Hails from New Trier High School in Northfield, Ill. She plays catcher. She was named one of the Top 100 Players and Top 15 catchers in Illinois by the Chicago Sun Times in 2011. She also helped lead her high school team to the semi-finals of the Illinois 4A Class State Championship in 2010. Morrison plays travel softball with the Illinois Chill. "I am thrilled with our recruits who signed the National Letter of Intent," said Georgetown Head Coach Pat Conlan. "All four come from excellent travel ball programs and have been well coached. We have filled much needed holes by bringing in speed, athleticism, and depth to a young team. I am excited to see what the next four years have in store for us." The Georgetown University softball team begins the season at the Elon Tournament in Elon, N.C. on February 11, 2012. The Hoyas play their first home game against BIG EAST rival Notre Dame on March 24, 2012 at 1 p.m.
