Georgetown Women's Swimming and Diving Tops Mary Washington in Dual Meet
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Georgetown women’s swimming and diving team won its first dual meet of the season last Friday, 114-91, against Mary Washington at Goolrick Natatorium.
Winners on the day included Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./Loyola Prep), Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame), Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks), Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic), Mary Mason (Chicago, Ill./ St. Ignatius) and the 400 yd freestyle relay team.
Amaro led the Hoyas with three first-place finishes on the day. She collected victories in the 100 yd freestyle (54.53), 200 yd freestyle (1:58.78) and 500 yd freestyle (5:17.39). Her time in the 100 yd event is a new season-best.
Rhodes won the 200 yd breaststroke (2:28.89), Sytnyk won the 200 yd butterfly (2:11.96) and Newman picked up a victory in the 1000 yd freestyle (10:55.85).
Mason won the 200 backstroke (2:12.96), and together with Kaele Stock (Phoenix, Az./ Shadow Mountain), Julie Dougherty (East Haven, Conn./East Haven High) and McKay Elliott (Gaithersburg, Md./Georgetown Vistation), helped the Hoyas pick up the gold in the 400 yd freestyle relay (3:45.90).
Georgetown’s time in the 400 yd freestyle relay shattered this season’s previous best mark of 3:51.91, and Mason’s performance in the 200 yd backstroke and Sytnyk’s performance in the 200 yd butterfly also established new season-leading marks.
Georgetown is next scheduled to compete in the George Mason Patriot Invitational. That meet is scheduled to take place Nov. 21-23 in Fairfax, Va.
