Women's Tennis Defeats Nova Southeastern, 7-2

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team started off spring break strong with a 7-2 victory over the Nova Southeastern University Sharks on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The win improved the squad to 5-3 overall.
With the Sharks playing in Division II, the each match scored a point as opposed to Division I where the doubles matches count as one point for best of three.
In doubles play, the No. 2 pair of sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) managed the lone victory winning by a score of 8-1.
Singles play is where the Hoyas shined as the squad swept all six matches.
Sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) made quick work of Daria Burobina at No. 3 with the 6-1, 6-0 win. Senior and No. 1 player Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) followed that up with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alexandra Johansson, before sophomore Madeline Jaeger made it three in a row at No. 4 with the 6-3, 6-2 decision against Austin Lavalli,
Sekely and Tehrani both won at No. 5 and No. 2, respectively. Sekely downed Charlotte Cote by a score of 6-5, 6-3, while Tehrani beat Dominique Winner 6-2, 6-3. Junior Alexandra Landers (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Heart) made the final 7-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kamryn Blackwood at No. 6.
The Sharks were ranked No. 26 nationally and No. 9 in their region.
The Hoyas will face Lynn University on Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla., at 4:30 p.m.
