Women's Tennis Downs Claremont, 7-2, on Monday

LOS ANGELES – The Georgetown women’s tennis squad (4-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) defeated the Claremont-Mudd-Scripts in Claremont, Calif. on Monday afternoon, 7-2. The victory marked the third-straight win for Georgetown.

The Hoyas took two out of three doubles points when the pairs of senior co-captains Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) and Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) defeated a pair from CMS, 9-8, while junior Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and freshman Sophia Barnard (Mill Neck, N.Y./Portledge School) downed a Claremont doubles pairing, 8-4.

Georgetown continued the success heading into the singles portion of the match, winning five out of six singles matches.

Freshman Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) won in the No. 1 singles position in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1, making her 2-1 from that spot on the season. Saperstein is 5-3 overall in singles play during duals season.

In addition from their doubles victories, Comolli won a match from the No. 2 position as she defeated Claremont’s Katie Kuosman in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Barnard and Panarese also won their respective No. 4 and 5 singles matches.

Sophomore Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) did not drop a game in her No. 6 match for the Hoyas as she won, 6-0, 6-0.

The women close out their trip to California when they play UC Riverside in Riverside, Calif. on Thurs., March 13 at 3 p.m. ET, noon PT.
