WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team swept the Bucknell University Bison (2-11), 7-0, on Friday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas handily defeated their opponents as the team improved to 8-5 overall.
The Blue & Gray went right down the line in doubles play as all three pairs came away victorious. At No. 1, senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) continued their winning ways with an 8-0 victory. Junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) also won at No. 2 by a score of 8-4. At No. 3, junior Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) and classmate Nora Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) picked up the 6-5 victory to help the Hoyas earn the point.
Singles play was no different for the Blue & Gray. Greco quickly handled her opponent at No. 1 with the 6-1, 6-1 win, while sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) also came away on top with the 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Comolli won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3, before Sekely nabbed the 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Junior Alexandra Landers (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Heart) and freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) rounded it out for the Hoyas both winning at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively. Landers downed her opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 and Panarese finished strong with the 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Georgetown will host the University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday in a BIG EAST matchup at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Georgetown is currently 1-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
