Women's Tennis Drops Close 4-3 Match to UConn on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women’s tennis team (8-9, 2-2 BIG EAST) dropped a non-conference match on Saturday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex to the Connecticut Huskies (6-11) on Georgetown’s campus, 4-3.

The match started with singles play, which the squads split 3-3.

GU freshman Victoire Saperstein (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School) continued to win in the No. 1 postion for the Hoyas with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 victory over UConn’s Srna Stosljevic.

Sophomore Liselot Koenen (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) won in the No. 6 spot for Georgetown when she defeated Shea Flanagan in a three-set match, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) fought off a match point to tie the match at 3-3. Panarese defeated Jennifer Learmonth of Connecticut in the last singles match to finish, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5.

But the Hoyas dropped the doubles point, 2-1, and the match, 4-3, when UConn won the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches.

The match between the Hoyas and the Huskies surpassed five hours on Saturday.

The women play UMBC in Baltimore, Md. on Wed., April 9 at 2 p.m.
