WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team improved to 3-2 in BIG EAST Conference play on Friday with a 6-1 victory over the Seton Hall University Pirates at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Courts. It helped Georgetown to its current 12-5 overall record including a mark of 8-2 at home and a current five-match win streak.
The Hoyas jumped out to the early lead picking up the doubles point in the first two matches. The No. 2 pair of sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) won by a score of 8-3, before the No. 3 pair made up of freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) took the match with the 8-4 win.
In singles play, Sekely started it out with a straight-set victory at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Panarese continued her impressive rookie campaign with the 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. The freshman is currently on a six-match singles win streak and has won 13 of her past 14 singles matches played.
Sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win, before Jaeger nabbed the 6-4, 6-2 victory. Comolli is currently on a seven-match singles win streak.
Tehrani rounded it out at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-3 decision to make the final, 6-1, in favor of the Hoyas. The sophomore has won her past six matches.
The Blue & Gray will finish out the regular season this week with three matches at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
GU will host St. Francis on Tuesday before a pair of BIG EAST matches over the weekend hosting the Syracuse University Orange and the Villanova University Wildcats on Friday and Saturday.
Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
